Jimbo Fisher: Florida State Seminoles Head Coach
Jimbo Fisher is the current head coach of the Florida State Seminoles football team. He has been at the helm since 2010 and has enjoyed a successful career coaching the team. Fisher came to FSU after his time as an offensive coordinator at LSU, where he helped the team win a national championship. He was the quarterbacks coach at Auburn, and the wide receivers coach at Samford before that.
Under Fisher, the Seminoles have won two Atlantic Coast Conference championships, in 2012 and 2014. They were also runners-up twice during the season. In 2013, Fisher led the team to their third consecutive BCS bowl win, a 34-31 victory over Auburn at the 7th annual Violet Bowl. The Seminoles went on to win the national title in 2013, which made Fisher the second FSU coach ever to do so.
During his time at FSU, Fisher has produced a host of talented players, including Quarterback Jameis Winston; Offensive Tackle Cameron Erving; Running Backs Dalvin Cook and Devonta Freeman; Defensive End DeMarcus Walker, and Wide Receiver Rashad Greene. Fisher has also successfully recruited several of the top college football recruits in the country, including five-star safety Derwin James and four-star defensive tackle Marvin Wilson.
Fisher's teams have won more than just championships on the field, however. He has also focused on the development of his team off the field as well. He has initiated several initiatives to help his players succeed on and off the field. These include seminars about financial literacy, career planning and life skills. He has also brought in outside resources such as character coaches and wellness counselors to help develop his players even further.
Fisher has also implemented a "no excuses policy", which has translated into a culture of accountability and hard work within his program. This has paid off in the form of players who constantly strive to improve on the field. One of the key members of the staff, defensive coordinator Bill Miller, was quoted as saying "There is a certain 'no excuses' mantra that Jimbo has woven into our players. It has had a very positive effect on our players, from the freshmen up to the seniors."
No matter what happens on the field, Jimbo Fisher is focused on making sure his players have the skills and resources needed to be successful after their time with the Seminoles. He is still one of the most successful coaches in the country, and has built a program in Florida that will remain competitive for years to come.
